im going to get some meds at some point but what would be better waterlife protozin & myxazin or API pimafix & melafix? or are there any others you can suggest.

I use king British, it just cleared my pleco of a pretty bad infection in a week, I havent tried any of the others though but I suppose it depends on what you are treating ;-)

API Melafix is more of a preemptive medication for exterior infections.  I use it for ripped fins or scales to prevent infections, but not as a primary medication.  I also use a little in my QT for new fish.

I haven't had experience with the other meds, sorry!

its more of a preemptive thing just in case but im pretty sure both my GBRams have something as there are white-ish grey transparent patches on them every now and again

Why are you buying meds? You won't have to treat for anything if you take care of the fish properly and take preventative measures.
The brand does not matter. There are thousands of diseases and many medications, some of them don't work as intended and most of them will cause a havoc in such a little echosystem like an aquarium, so you need to be sure what your fish are sick from and then decide on medication fully understanding the complications, read the label several times.
Don't use medication of any kind as a prevention. It does not work that way. You don't take aspirin if you've got no headache.
Learn how to minimize stress when introducing new fish, acclimation techiques and quarantine instead and save yourself some money.
The only thing I'd advise is probably some aquarium safe salt and that's only if you don't keep salt sensitive fish. This is to be used only when there are certain problems, not as part of maintaining the tank.

that's a tad aggressive, meds like pimafix and melafix are natural and dont effect the ecosystem and can be used as a preventative measure especially when adding new fish.
and about you aspirin analogy, i have asthma and i take a preventer inhaler, even if im not having a asthma attack...its there to prevent it.

I am sorry to hear you have asthma. But in regards to the analogy, you actually are suffering from asthma, although taking an ihaler to prevent an asthma attack.

Have you really researched about them?  First of all, a lot of medication is derived from natural stuff. Don't let the marketing fool you.
Second, melafix and primafix when overused can cause issues with internal organs like liver damage in fish. And just because you can't see or measure the effect, it does not mean they don't affect the ecosystem. No healthy fish will need either of them at any stage to stay healthy.

that's a tad aggressive

And I am sorry if it sounds aggressive. It's not worded to insult anyone personally but to try understand that an aquarium isn't a kids game how to become a vet, if you care about your fish.

yea i suppose that makes sense

no worries, and i understand that but its not me playing vet its so i have something on hand if i notice anything, i wouldnt be using it every day.
