nitrate: unknown

gH:
tank temp: 78
Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior): I have three fish sitting at the bottom of the tank in a corner in the gravel, not moving much. They are alive but inactive. I had a die off of 4 fish yesterday morning- a small upside down catfish, a small red and black swordfish, and two glofish.
Volume and Frequency of water changes: Probably closer to 12-13 gallons after accessories
Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: I used the water treatment drops that came with the tank. I also used smart start bacteria the day after adding the fish (I had the water tested at a local petstore and everything was still clean)
Tank inhabitants: A yellow snail, a blue/silver Gourami (these two seem to be the happiest inhabitants), a red glofish, a dalmation molly, micky mouse molly, and a platy (these last three are the ones sitting all together in a corner not moving much).
Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): This is a new tank, less than a week old- there are two moss balls in the tank. The gourami, platy, and snail are from three or four days ago; the glofish, dalmation, and micky mouse were added yesterday after I did a forty % water change thru a gravel cleaner and added more bacteria.

Other Stuff;
I have done two water tests at a local petshop and everything has come back as ok (the petshop employee even opened a new test kit on our last visit and did an extra test to make sure it wasnt a faulty test). I added the bacteria after the first water test which was the day after the addition of the first fish (which was about two and a half days after we set up the tank to let the water equalize). Then we had the die off of half the tank. Tested the water again and it came out as nothing wrong. Did a forty % water change, added water conditioning drops to the new water, and at the urging of the petstore added additional smart start bacteria. Also added about a tablespoon and a half of aquarium salt at petstore recommendation. Fish haven't really been intersted in their food also.
The tank itself has a fake log tipped up with an airrock supplying bubbles up it, another air rock under a plant, there are five fake plants total- all of various sizes from very short to going the length of the tank. The tank light is turned off at night and turned back on during the day. We bought a heater which seems to be keeping the tank at 78 degrees. I have read complaints on the filter that comes with this tank and am wondering if I need to replace it if its part of my problems. I am also wondering if taking water from the top of the tank could affect the results of the water test in a column tank like this? I am out of ideas on getting the tank to stabalize and I have talked with three aquarium employees at two different petstores that don't seem to have any new ideas either. Although one guy did mention that the petstore that i originally got the fish from gets their water from a different source which tends to be a slightly higher pH (around 7.5) and the water is harder water.
Would appreciate any reccomendations! Its been a few years since we had a tank and I've never experienced problems like this.
