In my haste to set up the new aquarium last night, I ended up leaving my test kit in a bucket out in the rain. End result wet boxes. So I am shopping for a new set as my LFS only stocked NO3 kits.

I know strips are to be avoided but does anyone have any experience of these.

Is there any emergency way of getting an idea of levels without a test kit? Just an idea if my levels are safe. I plan to carry out a large water change later.

My small stock are currently cycling my new aquarium, not ideal I know but I was left without options.

My size is 350L

Not to my knowledge apart from sick fish :( I suppose even though test strips are not accurate you could keep a supply and if they showed the slightest rise then use a more expensive test. Personally I'd invest in an API Freshwater Master Test kit which gives you High/Low ph, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. You can find these sometimes on ebay for good prices. :)

Cheers for the reply, the fish seem healthy enough, although it is a little early to tell as they have only been in their new home for 24 hours. My peppered Cory has gone into hiding, I haven't seen him since this morning and have definitely not found him floating. I think he may be hiding right at the back, he tends to go missing from time to time. My odessa barb is trying to shoal with the black widows, he may have got confused since his two friends died.

EDIT

I opted for this>

Good price too. Hope it doesn't take too long to arrive.
