just done a water test and the ph is 7.4 the ammonia is 0.25, nitrite 0 and nitrate is 40ppm, its water change day tomorrow what should i do is my water test ok?

thanks in advance

gaz

Ammonia should be zero. I would recommend a water change today then retest tomorrow to see whats up with that ammonia. Nitrates are a bit high but that depends on your tap too, personally not levels I would be too concerned about.

What test kit are you using?  What dechlorinator do you use?

Is this a cycled tank, or is it a new set-up?

thanks for your replys, the test kit im using is a api master test kit and im using aqua one water conditioner , the tank isn't new its been running for about 6 months now.

It could be a false reading, a reading of 0.25ppm on the API isn't unusual when its not really there.

I wouldn't worry about a 0.25ppm reading a day before a water change.  I'd do the change as scheduled.  If the ammonia starts reading higher, then worry.

Be certain to take the reading in natural light as well.

oh right that is good then, ive done a 25% change this morning so il do another test before sunset tonight thanks for your reply
