i was curious to know what water temperature everyone always have their tanks set at . . .

i have mines set at 77 degrees F, does anyone think that's too low or too high?

hope everyone posts it up! thanks alot! :good:

Depends on mine, i tend to drop or higher temp when breeding fish etc.. also depends on whether i want male or female fry..
I find lower temps produce more males..

So overall, mine range from 24-28 degrees :)

Interesting about the male-female depending on temperature. I never knew.

Funny though - my tanks have no heaters (it's impractical to buy many heaters for small plastic containers in the tropics where the water stays warm enough anyway) and I have almost no males being born. Maybe it's just because it's so hot that the water stays warm enough - if it didn't I'd need heaters.

the community is alot more active when the water temperature is higher, i think personally

when the water temperature is lower, they seem to be really calm

so when the water temp is lower, you get more males & when the water temp is higher, you get more females. is there a water temp where you can get ABOUT even portions of male and females?

My tanks are both currently set at 26c. One has a Hydor external 300w heater and the other uses an internal 200w heater.

Fish seem pretty happy with things like that, and my female platy gave birth to what looks like 2 female platies before dying, followed by the other female, the male was hounding them and I should have put a seperator in for a few days :(

Guys, when it comes to temperature, whatever everyone says, if your fish are happy then you are doing the right thing.

I find that cooler temperatures produce more males, warmer temperatures produce more females, but it changes from species to species.

I have a friend who has done a study, you would be really surprised what temperatures fish can survive at.

One thing to remember is that if you are going to change temperatures, do it gradually.
