Water Temp Up And Down?

the temprature of my water goes between 24c and 28c this seems quite a lot to me will this be causing the fish to stress?

maybe i need a better heater or take it out of the filter
What size is the tank and what heater are you using?

What's the room temperature usualy? If its 24c or below, I'd say the heater is on it's way out....

im not sure what our room temp is quite warm as the rooms is in the loft

thinking about it that could be it because its cold in the mornings and warmer in there at night
That could be a possibility

will a temp swing like this be harmful to the fish it happends over such a long time im not sure they would notice but i want to be sure

It's debateable as to whether or not it's an issue for healthy fish, but it won't do any ill fish any good

Can you tell us the wattage and the minimum and maximum room temps allong with the "adverage". This will let up tell you whether the heater is powerfull enough :good: You should not get a 4 degree swing in an adverage room, so the room temperature would have to move about a lot. I think a 100W is supplied with the Record 70 as standord. This should cope fine down to about 10c :good:

All the best

ok ill keep a eye on it and when i can afford a 200w one i will invest :good:

If your water heater is not big enough to keep up with heat losses to the room you will experience changes in tank temperature. It is not necessarily a bad thing to have tank temperatures vary with the time of day. As long as the variation is within the tolerance of your fish, the variation will be more like the real world the fish come from than a constant temperature. If the range goes outside the fish's range, a larger heater is in order. I had to unplug the heaters on my goodeid tanks to get them to move around and give my goodeids a better chance to reproduce. In their case, they do not thrive at a constant temperature.
