Hi

through bad advice i put fish in our tank 5 days after we set it up.
the shop would not let us return the fish & sold us some chemicals
i then cam here.

after using the forums we managed to get all of my ammonia, nitrite to 0ppm.

i have just done a test now & my ammonia was about 8ppm, nitrite about 5ppm, 6.6ph & 5.0 ppm nitrate.

whats happened the fish seem normal.

we have a 60l.

it has 1 bristlenos plecc
5 neons
3 platinum testras
3 cherry platys
3 apple snails
1 molly
7 guppies
& 3 baby guppies

i know there is a lot for 60l but all are small & i am getting a new ank when i move out in roughly a weeks time.

i have a internal filter a stingray 10 & a 50w heter. came as a kit.

any more info just ask.

please help me

thanks

When did you last do a water change?

The only thing for it, is to start doing water changes, even several times a day looking at those stats, until you get the ammonia, NitrItes back down to 0.

Have you recently added a lot more fish? Did you forget to use declorinator when you did a water change, therefore harming your bacteria?

nope i havent added fish for ages.

erm last was 2 guppies about 3 weeks ago.

never forget to use dechlifinator.

i have sucked stuff out of the gravel with a gravel vac.

erm also last water change was friday night but i usually only do a weekly one

thanks

The tank is overstocked and probably under filtered, a 60L tank isn't even 20gallons, and you have 23 fish and 3 invertebrate. How often are you changing the water, how much of the water are you changing, when was the last time you cleaned the filter and how many gallons is the filter rated for?

Filter sounds like it has "died" plus its not "man enough" for the job

Leave it in there though... try and get a better filter, and do 25% water changes every day - but add the new (dechlorinated and correct temp) water slowly, I like to put a bucket on a pair of steps, and let the new water syphon into the tank via a length of airline... takes ages, but lessens shock.
If you have another tank, or can find someone local - try to reduce your stock until the tanks back on its feet.

And for gawds sake, find another fish shop ! :-(

+1 to roosters advice..

Also, noticing that pH of 6.6, you might want to do a KH test. Perhaps you are in the situation where low KH is allowing pH to drop too low and the filter can't cycle properly -- but really I think rooster is right and its just overloaded even if it is cycled ok.

i have tested my tap water & when it goes in its at 7.4ph.

But when i test the tank its always low.

help????

i have also realised i used a gravel vav to take all the left over food & poo off the bottom of the gravel. Will this affect the good bacteria.

I really really need help guys,

I have asked my friend he said i can move my 3 platys to his tank as any others will get bullied by his fish.

Thanks

There are some usefull bacteria on the substrate (gravel) but not a lot that we need worry about.... the filter should be housing 99% of it (unless you use an under-gravel filter system !)
So, vac away !

i have also got another friend to take my molly and 2 guppies.

I justwant to get the tank back on track done 1 water changed earlier going to do another now.

Also i bough a better filter to go along side this one will this be ok.

thanks
