I did a 40% water change yesterday evening then this morning did a water test.

Results are -
Nitrate 25
Nitrite 1
No2 14
Kh 30
Ph 7.6

Is this a good or bad result?

Cheers gaz

Well, nitrate is at an ok level.
You want to get Nitrite down to at least 0.25
PH is dependant on your stocking, but is an average level. Dont really know about No2 and kH.
Try and get yourself an ammonia test.

Tank looks like its not cycled or you are going through a mini cycle. Perfect levels are Nitrite 0, Ammonia 0 and Nitrate <100

EDIT: Yay, 100th post :D

thanks for the reply.do you think I should do another water change?

Yeah, make sure the filter is in water the whole time. Another 40% shoudl leave you ok for now. I suggest finding some way of helping the cycling like getting some mature filter media from someone.

I assume we are talking fish in this tank? If so, then yes another 50% water change to get that nitrite down to minimum of 0.25pm.

Do you have an ammonia test at all?

my tank has been running for abot 3 months surely i dont need any mature media?

my stocking at the moment is - 2 platy 2 molly 8 neon tetra 2 cory 2 dwarf frogs and numerous platy and molly fry. the fish all look happy and very active.

cheers

Hi, i was just thinking that if you are having irregular readings like this 3 months in, there is something wrong with your bacteria. I would strongly recommend you buy an ammonia test (NO STRIPS, they suck) and find the ammonia levels.

ok i done a 50% water change left it an hour a just done another test....

nitrat 25
nitrite 0
no2 6
kh 6
ph 7.2

im having real trouble matching the colour up , will my lfs do a water test for me?

also to what you said about keeping the filter underwater at all times, this might be were im going wrong because i used to just leave it on the side of the tank as i changed water.

cheers

Sorry Gazza but your results don't make sense. NO2 is nitrite. You list it as 0 and as 6 which makes no sense to me. Do you have 2 different ways to measure nitrites that are giving you different results? The LFS will almost alwatys do water testing either for free or for a small charge. If you have them test your water write down the numbers. Keithoms adivice to use a liquid type test kit is on the money. It is not a good idea to trust the test strips.
