i was thinking of getting one. Just wanted some feed back as if they work good and make the water crystal clear. I am running a eheim2217 on a 125 gallon and water isnt as clear as it should be ?

Do you use filter floss, also black carbon keeps the water crystal clear.

are you talking about diatom filters?

if so, yes they are worth the money, they work extremely good, makes the water clearer than u can imagine

Don't replace or clean your filter media too often.

Meaning, try to keep some brown gunk on it, but keep it clean enough for adequate water flow, without any water bypassing the filter.

Believe it or not, that brown gunk will polish your water.

Hi..I have a Whisper Diatomagic filter. I purchased it off of Ebay since Tetra/Whisper stopped manufacturing them. I think Vortex is the main manufacturer now. I will admit....they make the water INCREDIBLY CLEAR. The only thing is that......if you take care of your tank, you don't need it. I bought mine in the early days of cycling when I was going crazy with the cloudy tank syndrome. I didn't want to put any chemicals in. I thought it would clean it out...uh...well...it did and I haven't had much use for it since. The only time was after a carbon replacement when I thought I had rinsed the cartridge out well and the water clouded up a bit. The filter cleaned it out immediately. It will take out anything bigger than one micron....algae, the ich organism, plant matter, etc. But..as above, my water is so clear now I can see rainbows in the water during the day. All the posts here are true...patience, routine maintenance, appropriate lighting and regular water changes and no overfeeding SH

Add...as per the post about carbon.....I don't believe that will 'uncloud it'. See my last post. http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showto...ctivated+carbon
