Water Poisoning

50% water change is complete. Already the fish are looking better, much more active! How do you recommend i increase aeration now?

Current behaviour includes:
one fish with poor balance.
a few fish dwelling at the surface, gasping.
and generally lathargy.

hi all, i have the same problem, i have one with poor balance which is floating at the top with three others (four platties) and a mollie with darkened colour and eroded skin.

The mollie has been ill for a few days, i have done at least a 50% water change (with aquasafe added) and since then is when the platties started hiding at the top floating.

the mollies symptoms apart from the erosion, fit with water poisoning, so as mentioned i changed the water.

The erosion suggest bacterial infection, but no other fish show it, could water poisoning cause erosion???

there is another mollie who is very active along with some guppies, catfish and loaches who also are active and seem happy.

i have a fluval filter in the tank with a sponge block and an air curtain running along the back.

i see deorating fumes can cause problems, there has been some fumes from stainblocks and painting going through the house (although the tank is not in an area to be exposed to high levels of it) and i used a pressure cooker to carry the water which has been washed in the dishwasher..

I have ordered a test kit so at the moment i do not know the nitrite, nitrate, ammonia levels etc.

By turning filter up.
Or an air pump with an airstone. attached.

i got a kit today PH and nitrite levels are fine.

i ahve an air curtain about 12" long in the tank with plenty of air going through it.

Will having an air curtain running too fast (too much air running through) stress the fish?... the guppies seem to like it after turning it up but they will dive into anything lol.
