Sorry to post again,

But I've been looking at everyones tanks they have posted, and I am so jealous of their water clarity!!

After nearly a month and a half now and my water is still like a brown dirty water colour and when I do a partial change it goes a little bit cloudy bit still brownish, not as bad though.

I do have two pieces of bog wood in their and found it could be that, but really is this still causing the problem?

If so or not how can I clear it, as I want to watch my fish in their glory!

Thanks

You could try running carbon in a filter, and replace it ever week. Also try filter floss. :)

It is most likely the bog wood, it releases tannin in small amounts but constantly, this isn't harmful to your fsh but will make your water brown, this varies from piece to piece and can last for up to six months, either buy some different bog wood and hope you get some with less tannin or simply wait for it to disperse. As above, trying a carbon filter might work. Good luck.

You have some quite big pieces of bog wood there and yes they can take many months before all the tannins are released and even then they may never completely stop. Soaking with warm water in the baths for a week changing the water daily will help but you'll still have some left after this. As mentioned regularly replaced carbon in your filter will also help as may filter floss. Worst case scenario would be to buy new wood if it bothers you that much. From my personal experience I have always found mopani wood to leach far less tanins than actual bogwood.

Err... nearly every LFS I've been to in the UK stocks it not sure about US. Its African hardwood and consequtnly more resistant to rotting than bogwood.

Petco stock it so I assume some US LFS must do to.

Yes, actually it was a petco that I saw some in the other day. Sorry, despite your ID I forgot you were in UK! Thought I remembered an ad in the back of a fish mag and was thinking I would stir up some opinions. Interesting that mopani sounds a little easier to deal with than bogwood..

Ok suppose I just have to live with it for a while!

I wish it would just go away now, I cannot see the colours of my fish as how they should be :( unless they are right up next to the glass
