hi, have not long put in my tank a piece of hardwood root after washing and soaking it over night to get the yellow out :hyper: its 2 days after now and the colour of my water is getting very yellow could any one help :kana:

Hope this helps

You could add carbon to your filter to help remove the stain from the water.

Or you could take the wood out and then soak/boil it some more and keep doin regualr water changes to help remove the colouring.

if the colour dont bother you to much then just keep doing your regular water changes and eventually the tannings will disapear but if you dont like it then use carbon :D

When I aded my driftwood to my tank it was strait from the lake thats down the street. I soaked it for like a day and put it in the tank. No problems at all.... except it didn't sink right away....

that will be coz it had been sosakin for god knows who long in the lake, it takes ages to get tannins out of wood, but boiling it makes it much faster just keep boiling it and changing the wayter u boil it in and they will all come out pretty quick

I have a piece of driftwood in a tank that is several years old. This piece of wood has been boiled and soaked and is still releasing tannins after having been in my tank for a couple of years. Personally, I like the look of the tannins as it creates a more natural color to the water. Very few lakes, rivers, etc., where fish are found are completely clear. As time goes on the wood is also disintegrating and is taking on a different shape.

I do think that wood will always give off tannins to a degree. I think a lot depends on the size of the wood and the amount of water it is in.
