Water Cycle Please Check

Hi just setup my tank 30l on Saturday

And then started a fish less cycle (added old plant and rock from a tank that I've had running for years)

I ve been adding flake food every day and just done my first water check please can you check the results so make sure I am on the right track


Ammonia 0.50ppm
Nitrite 0 ppm
Nitrate 5.0 ppm

Do I carry on adding food for next few days then test again?

I am just going to carry on with the flakes yes I know it takes longer but I am in no hurry

When ever i start a new tank i take matured media from anoth tank and also the water feom the same tank always works for me never had a problem doing that thatway

Personally, I would recommend against it for now. The food that you've already added will still be breaking down, producing ammonia. And since the reading hasn't hit zero yet, you still have some ammonia for the bacteria to munch while you wait. I'd only add more food if the ammonia dropped to below 0.25ppm. Until then, just wait for the ammonia to come and then add that up to 2-3ppm when it does come.
