I had to buy some dechlorinator today and I came across something I found to be interesting.

I looked at Tetra Aquasafe, Top Fin Water Conditioner, and Hagen Aqua Plus. All of them were apprx the same price, however the dosage levels were very skewed.

Tetra Aquasafe, the WC I have been using, requires 5ml per 10 gal.
Top Fin WC, requires only 1ml per 10 gal.
Hagen Aqua Plus, requires 10ml per 10 gal.

All of these remove both Chlorine and Chloramines.

I ended up buying the Top Fin.

I'd like to know what everyone thinks about this. Do all of these brands work equally as well? Why would anyone buy anything but the Top Fin WC (it is by far the best value)?

The brand doesn't matter. Just buy whichever is the best value- considering it's debateable if you even need dechlor at all, its not going to matter much if the cheap one is slightly less good than the expensive one.

It depends more on your water supply than anything else. Any dechlorinator will remove chlorine & chloramine, sodium thiosulfate is what does that. The problem is the ammonia that results from chloramine, which is a chlorine/ammonia compound. You also have to consider some water has heavy metals in it, this is a big concern with well water.
