Hopefully will be getting back into the hobby soon and this has been on my mind after seeing some videos of experienced fish keepers and how water change techniques vary

I use to have a 100 litre tank and another smaller one, I use to do the large bucket technique, dechlorinate and leave to stand for 24hrs before actually doing the water change.

Planning on getting a 260 litre tank and just wondering how you guys with bigger tanks do say 25-50% changes, thats seems ike a lot of bloody buckets

I was watching a guy doing his big tank with one of those python syphons with the huge hose, emptying out 30% then mixing hot and cold tap to about right temp and sending the tap water straight into the tank for refil, as he started this he would add half of the desired dechlorinator straight into the tank while refilling that he needed for the new water and after the top up was complete he would add the other half of dechlorinator.

Is this a safe method? I seen someone else doing this with an even bigger tank also or does everyone fill bucket - dechlorinate - add to tank - repeat over and over

Starts at about 9:15 into the vid on a 40 gal tank

Yes it's safe and what I do as well on all of my tanks. It might be better to add all of the dechlorinator at the beginning but I usually do half and half like that. :)
You can buy one of those water changers or you can make your own. I think there are some DIY threads on here somewhere for them.

I'm actually about to make my own "Python" soon. All you really need is some hose, a soda bottle, a connector for your faucet (they are shaped like the letter y, but inverted), and maybe some silicone.

I'll be using this video:

Currently I'm lugging around buckets. :(

I dont have a mixer tap so I fill the sink with water, leaving the taps running and use a water pump to pump the water from the sink to the tank. I actually have 2 pumps one for clean water one for dirty, so I can be emptying the next tank while filling another.

I've got a 288l tank and currently syphon off the water out the window into the garden, Then I fill up a large bucket that holds around 25 litres with both cold and warm water to bring the temperature close to my tanks (and conditioner of course) and then chuck it in my tank. Job done.

I've got a mixer tap in the bathroom which has a shower attachment that unscrews so I'm looking to try and find a hose that would screw in here so I can feed it straight into the tank at the right temperature, saving me the effort of carrying the large bucket around!

I've got a 300L tank and I made my own syphon with a PVC pipe and hose, it's long enough to get the bottom of my deep tank, and i fill it back up with a jug and enough conditioner added in to the first jug for the rest of the water change.
