hi ppl just wanted to ask your views on how many water changes you can do without upsetting the balance of your tank
im only asking as i do a little every day as my corys love it your views please
regards scot :)

Dont think you can do too many w/c, so long as you dechlor it (or in some cases once media is very mature its not really necessary on small w/c).

The fish in most cases will always prefer fresh clean water, its not as if in nature they are in the same body of water for long as its always moving and re-freshing itself.

As long as the replacement water matches the tank water within reason it's near impossible to do too many. I've had situations where I was changing 50% daily, people looking for fish, fish need to grow more. Fresh water & plenty of food makes fish grow.

I've also done what you are doing, a little every day, cooler water, to get fish to spawn. For corys, 10% daily of straight cold tap gets them in the mood. Run it in fast, splashing the surface, imitating a good rain. Feeding at the same time helps as well.

thanks for your replys i appreciate it :)
tolak i always feed about 20 mins after a water change as my idea (probs wrong lol) is that "rain" stirs up food for the fish in the wild so its logicall in my head to feed them then

i was worried as on another forum i read that dechlor puts colloids in to the water and these might be harmfull if they build up

I feed before I vacuum too. But agreed, providing water stats/temp are within tolerance there shouldn't be a problem.
