I have read up on lots of ways. I have finally bought a biger tank (450L) and am thinking on the best way to change the water.

I am short and the tank stands at nearly 5ft high... so im going to need to stop with the 10l buckets!!

Thoughts and ideas Pics if they might help on you ingenius ways of changing your water.

Thanks

a DIY syphon with really long tubing so you can put the end in the garden/bath/sink and drain it like that?

ive got a 450 litre tank and i do weekly water changes with buckets. has never really bothered me.

Can the outlet for syphoning be above water level of the tank???

How tall are you for me i would be lifing buckets over head height.

I just have two hoses, one short one that attaches to my kitchen sink, and one long one that drains into our bathroom. It takes a while to change 1000 liters of tanks, but its mostly hands off, just start the syphon, and then go do something else for 20 mins.

im just taller than the tank , i use a stool though , makes it much easier

no to the first one, if this happens the only way the water can go, is back into the tank.

small steps will help a lot with this. but maybe a Python is what you are looking for:

this is just an example, i do not mean to suggest that this is the one to buy,

I have a 400 litre tank and just psyfen the water straight out the window. doing it with buckets would be a night mare

i have a lenght of hose pipe going out the window/door i suck on the tube for a seconds for the water to flow. i then vacum the tank with the tube in the tube untill it gets to the level i want.

i then add the dechlorinator and fill the tank up with water from a mixer tap. (my hot water comes from the mains so not storage tank water) tank about 20 mins to do a 90+ litre water change

How does the python work with non mixer taps, if you added just cold water your tank would temp would drop quite sharply as at this time of year the water is really cold. Im looking into getting a powerful pump (like the eheim hobby range) and just keeping the sink topped up with warm water and pumping directly into the tank. Some of these pump 1000ltr + an hour.

The whole hookup looks something like this

There is a 1400gph pump in the can, with a hose that runs to my sump pump. I can also run it out the door to the garden.

For filling I have a second hose

It runs to the utility sink, I mix the hot & cold with the faucet, and have a Y valve for a second hose that gets used for all sorts of utility work.

There is a shutoff at the fishroom end of the fill hose, and a switch box for the drain pump that I can switch with my foot. With somewhere around 1,000 gallons running between all my tanks buckets would kill me.
