Hello everyone,

I did a 40% water change this evening. Since I have quite a thick bed of sand I dug my fingers into the sand and loosened it up to free the bubbles and also remove any algae in the tank. However, after doing this I noticed that the tank suddenly became very cloudy. I thought it could be because of the sand floating about and it should settle in around couple of hours. However it hasn't and still looks terrible. Any clues as to what I could have done wrong? I have posted the before and after pics and you can make out a difference :( Any help would be gratefully appreciated :good:

My guess is, there is a bit of dust still left in your substrate which you have now disturbed. If it were sand particals then it would clear in a couple of hours but dust will take days...(like when you first add water to new sand)

BTW that's a great (artificial?) log.....where did you get it?

Thanks doresy :)

Is this in any way harmful to the fish? I accidentally sucked up a zebra loach today while vaccuming the substrate. Poor guy was too slow. I netted him and put him back into the tank. I haven't seen him. I reckon he is hiding. Do you think he will be ok?

Thanks :) That is an artificial log, made from resin I think. I got it from Maidenhead aquatics. We have a couple of stores here in Swindon. I think it cost £16 or something close to that. The loaches do love it and keep hiding in it :good:

The dust wont harm them, I guess your loach is just pisssed :S I had a small platy (big fry) that was sucked up then poured down the loo and was only discovered by my wife about an hour later swimming around the pan! I retrieved her and popped her back in the tank. That was 2 years ago and she is massive now and I think it has taken her this long to forgive me
I have a Maidenhead round the corner I will look see if they stock that log (Love your whole tank look, apart from the boat thing......sorry)

Don't mind if he is pissed and gives me attitude :shifty: as long as he is fine :)

How could you say that doresy, you sent my wife into labour  Just come back from the hospital after becoming a proud father of another baby girl :good: Both me and my wife realise the boat is tacky and were apprehensive about it in the first place. But my daughter was insistent on it and considering the tank was her birthday gift... you know what I mean :)
