Do it in small stages so as not to shock the fish with a big change all at once.

no worries.i wouldnt have done it in one hit.i looked at your flikr photo set, have you got asny co2 injection in your tank?planted tanks thrits wicked watching the fishive with them,i got into planted tanks about two yrs ago,its wicked watching the fish interact with the plants.also some good ferts every week will add to your plant health.

what went on with my spelling there?

Pond supplies are usually a better deal then aquarium supplies as they are made to treat very large qties of water and cost barely more.

Take Melafix
The regular Melafix will cost about 7-8$ for aquariums
A container double that size called Pond Melafix (which is the same thing, but 10 times more concentrated) will cost 15$ so you actually get 5 times more melafix...

I imagine water conditionners are the same

I've been using pond dechlorinator for about 2 months now, i haven't had any problems so far. You will need to reduce the amount. Work out how much you'll need from the instructions

Nope, it's all going to be low tech, at least until I get some more cash! We're saving up for the fish at the moment ;)
