Hiya, (maybe a stupid question) but when i do a water change i fill it through the filter housing so it flows more gradually through to the tank and not stress the fish out so much, I have rekord 96, I was just wondering whether this is going to disturb/kill the bacteria in the sponges? :/

To my knowledge (if treated with dechlorinator such as Stress Zyme) then no.

Do you mean stress coat? As far as i know stress zyme isnt a dechlorinator.

:*) coat - I meant coat ! thanks for clearing that up. End of week - long week....

It should be fine, You should be fine dumping the water directly into the tanks. They shouldnt be bothered by it too much as long as the water isnt too hot or too cold from the current tank temp.

Hi, I have a Rekord 96. I tip the new treated water in using a jug. I pour it in at one of the corners. I change between 10 - 15%. It isn't a large quantity of water on a smallish tank. It still takes me about 45 minutes in total to siphon out and put the new water in ! :)

Thanks again for the info :) , if it isn't affecting the bacteria i'll continue to fill through the filter

I think they recommend it with those tanks because it primes the filter outlet, otherwise it can be hard to get it going again after its been switched off. I've got a Rekord 70, I do the same.

arrhh.. thats good to hear thanks :)

I dont think conditioner kill bacteria if it does all my tank would be graveyard by now. As long u use ur tank water to water the sponge there should be no problem at all keeping bacteria alive.

As everyone has said, you should be ok as long as you use dehlorinator first. As far as doing it through the filter, it really isn't necessary. Just take a plastic cup, hold it in the water so the top is level with the water surface and pour the water straight into it, letting it flow over the sides. It really doesn't bother the fish at all. The only reason I even use the cup is to prevent the water force from disturbing the substrate.
