Did a water change earlier and realised 30 mins later i hadnt conditioned the water... doh!

Just wondering how long it takes for chlorine to destroy a filter

Its a 70ltr tank swapped about 20ltrs of water and 30 mins later added a 70ltr dose of conditioner, also brought some cycle and added that a few hrs later, but i'm just worried if it could have significantly damaged the bacteria in the 30mins

Gonna monitor it over the next week for amonia just incase.

I couldnt find a previous topic about this, but i'm sure i'm not the only person to have fogot to do this in the past.

You're not the only one!! My husband did the same thing a few weeks ago, and I did the same thing you did to try to fix it, minus using the Cycle. I remember hearing somewhere that if your tank is fully cycled, this isn't a disaster ... I checked my water stats daily for the next 10 days or so, and everything remained fine. My fish probably weren't happy for a while, but everybody survived.

I intentionally did this a while back, on a 20 gallon angel growout tank. There is a topic somewhere here about the bacteria that grow in a municipal water supply's pipes that convert chlorine, chloramine & ammonia to basically harmless substances, similar to the nitrifying bacteria in regars to ammo & nitrites.

I did a 50% wc with no dechlor, and after watching for a couple of hours saw no ill effects. I added declor since I had other things to do, the fish did fine, grew out the same as the other angels in another 20 gallon, and got sold long ago.

I'll try to find a link to that article.
