is it necessary to wash argos play sand, even though it will be going into a tank with nothing in it and wont be anything in it for a month or two as i will start cycling?

just seems alot of work to clean 30kg of it if there is no fish or anything for it to harm. and the filter should clear it in a day or two

cheers

you would need to clean your filter out as it would get clogged with sand
you're best to wash it

Just put the sand in a pillow case, and then run water through the pillow case with the sand to wash it out.

nearst toys r us is about an hour drive away, where as argos is on the way home from school

and good idea FHM!

Yeah, when I added sand to my tank, I was too ignorant to wash it, and I just started my filter up, bad idea. I had to take apart my filter like 10 times...lol...to clean all of the trapped sand out of it.

Best to wash it.

yeah i will now.

for some reason aqua essentials is accepting my card even though i bough something from them the other day

why not buy toys r us sand instead? it contains ZERO silt.

Have you actually brought toys r us stuff m8?, took me longer to clean it than it did the argos stuff not to mention it's double the price.
its double the price but you also get double the amount of sand, i hav had about 10 bags all from different batches and ive put it all in straight away, with no clouding.

toysrus stuff works out cheaper

That a great way. U learn a new thing every day thanks
You can also get a 5 gallon bucket, add about 1/3 of it with sand.

Then take a hose and stick the end of the hose down into the sand and turn the water on.

Swirl the sand around with the hose with the water on.

Debris and what not will start to float to the surface.

Let the water rise and spill over the top of the bucket with all of the debris.

The sand should stay near the bottom.

Once this is done, you can siphon all of the water out, leaving you with clean sand.
