Hi

Oh my - I just did a water change on my Q tank - the ammonia was up, sadly found a dead shrimp ohmy.gif(

Anyway, I pulled the Sting ray filter out to have a look behind it and was pulling bits of leaf off. On the back there is a rectangle shaped slot and what I thought was a leaf turned out to be a poor minnow! He had gone in there for whatever insane fish reason and all I could see was the end of his tail sticking out the slot!

I have put filter sponge in it now, it must have been high and dry out of the water for a good few minutes poor fish!!!

What a stupid design flaw! Fancy putting a handy fish sized slot in the back of a filter for goodness sake!

Thought I would share, hope he doesn't die poor chap. Hopefully others won't have the same nightmare realisation.

Maybe your fish was already dead and the current pulled in the fish, Ive had this filter before, and if a fish died it ended up behind the filter

I had a sickly white cloud, with a stingray filter, and while it was dithering about deciding whether to call it a day it did end up behind the filter but behind the upper bit. When I moved it it revived a bit, but not long after it expired. I have no idea if it has anything to do with the filter or not. All the other minnows are fine though. Now I have read this I am considering putting them in the other tank sooner rather than later.

I have to do something now, because another minnow has gone the same way. I will look into putting some filter material behind it.

Cover the opening in netting or block it up with filter sponge that is cut to size.

I had a similiar sort of problem with my stingray filter, I got it with my tank and several of the neons disappeared, and ended up round the back of the filter.

Not sure if they were already dead and got sucked in but that seems like a pretty big design flaw.

Changed to a Fluval filter and not a problem.
