This may seem obvious but i made a BIG mistake, about 3 weeks ago my platty and my balloon molly gave birth, i don't have another tank to put the fry in so i bought a fry net (the type that sticks to the side of your tank), i came downstairs this morning to find my male molly dead, he was stuck between the the net and the tank, i feel so guilty.

If you do use a net PLEASE keep an eye your fish, i wouldn't want anyone else going through what i've gone through today.

:rip: Mollie

arent they meant to stick to the side of the tank for that exact reason? there isnt any room for my fish to get behind. The suckers are crap to i hold it on with fishing line. always have, always will.

RIP

Thats what i thought, but theres JUST enough room for a fish to swim behind it, once my fry have grown i'm gonna be getting another tank( can't afford one just now), not going through losing a fish from my negligence(?spelling) again.

if you are fearing losing a fish like that again you could always buy a breeding chamber which is made of clear plastic that sticks to the side of the tank with suckers.

My fry net is sort of the same thing it's a net not plastic, because the suckers leave a SMALL gap the fish can get themselves caught, thats what happened with my male balloon molly, he managed to wriggle in but couldn't get out, still feel really guilty.

obviously a mistake :( However this is another on going trend on this forum of people who couldn't care less about the adults and just think about the fry. Want my advice? Don't use nets or traps! You would have to be very unfortunate not to have any fry survive at all.

the ones without suckers on them don't have this problem, although smaller fry can slip through these

The separate 10 gallon tank works great and saves both the adults and many of the fry. It is one point where I disagree with 5teady rather strongly. He seems to love the breeders and I hate them.

This is the second time my platty has had fry, NONE of the first lot survived thats why i bought the net, My LFS has just ordered me a 10 gallon tank should be here tomorrow, i hope.
