Wanting A Cichlid Tank

so i had a post before about what to put into a 45 gallon bowfront aquarium i am getting from my parents.. i got tons of good idea's for schools and such to put in there and now i want to explore another option ive been thinking of for awhile... cichlids! i guess biggest questions i need are

how many can i put in this 45gallon (170 liter)?
can i keep my 2 sterbi and 4 bronze corys and 2 upside down catfish?
what if any other fish can be housed with cichlids?
what types of cichlids would be best for someone just starting out!

Hi if you want cichlids with your catfish your looking at American Cichlids. Something nice and calm like Rainbows or Krobia or you could go down the dwarf route with a few pairs of things like Laetacara, Bolivian Rams, Apistos of all the varieties. Nannacara and Checkerboard would also work out nice.


I would up your catfish numbers as the cories all need to be in groups of 6 per species and the upside downs are social animals so would appreciate a larger group.
