So I currently use a Arcadia 4*54w T5 lamp suspended luminaire for my tank. My new tank is going to be shorter but higher than my existing tank so my Arcadia lumiare is going to be too long for it.

I was thinking of changing over to Metal Halide but contol gear (starter) for these seem really expensive.

Whats to stop me using water proof secuirty lights and putting Arcadia lamps in ?

Was thinking of a pair of these 70w versions with 2*£35 Arcadia 5,200K Freshwater 70w, double ended lamps.

£140 all togther a bargin if you ask me.

Any reasons why this cant be done ?

I've been thinking the same thing. I see no reason why it shouldn't work but I'm not an electrical expert. So long as the fittings are the same then it should work. The only down side is if people think it to be unsightly. With all metal hadlies, remember that they get HOT. I would get a few fans.

If you look at them lamps the reflectors are set to cast the light out from a wall, it will give you and uneven spread of light. You may not get an even spread of light.

True rabble, but thinnk of the distance these lights are designed to cast over (15+ meters). When casting over just 600mm I dont think I will have an issue with even spread.

Think I'm going to give it a go

Yeah I move into my new flat at the end of May so I'll do a Journal for my new tank.
