I was asking if they had any loaches (had to go there for grocerys) and the gal tried to sell me corys!

After about five minutes of explaining and quoting resources learned here like Planet Catfish, I finally got it through her head that they are CATFISH not LOACHES.

She then told me they don't carry loaches (expected that.).

I wouldn't have bought any considering the cleaniliness of the tanks, salesperson knowledge, etc... But to call Corys loaches?

I can sort of see that if you asked for Khulis and they thought you meant Cories, but otherwise, most Wal-Mart employees know as much about fish as they do how to build a rocket.

I didn't say which kind, I said "Loaches" and was told the only loaches they carry were Corys.

I could care how much they do or don't know, but even there price tag didn't call them a loach. :S

haha. the only fish ive ever bought from walmart is tetras. but they dont have a very big variety of fish at all. surprisingly they did have an oscar though.

They had Oscars here too. Some guy has a 6 year old one that has been in "less" than a 29G tank. :/

I recommended he come here for more info on the oscar and help w/ deciding substrate, rocks, etc... for the new 29G tank and told him he should get a 55G. :)

The wal mart hese sales clown loaches, but I would never buy them there, ever time I have seen them they was covered in ICH.

Wow, that's even worse than my local Walmart!! At least the employees here know cories aren't loaches... they may not know they're catfish, but they know they aren't loaches
Every time I hear stories like this I'm tempted to apply for a fishkeeper-only job at Walmart ;)

im so glad therei s nuthing like that in newzeland.u can only get fish at petshops or fish shops(there are only 2 of them in newzealand) and suprisanly most of the petshops have a good idear what they are doing..iv only seen one pet shop that was horible they had bettas in tini little cups and they said u can just keep them in there with weekly water changes..i nearly cryed.
and they also have a realy nice brown striped knife fish .dont know what it is but hes not to happy looking in his 5g tank so my bf is going down this week to buy him since he wanted a new knife fish and this guy need a new home(hes been there since feb).any way i just hope the shops like walmart dont hurt to many peoples feelings and dont kill to many fish.
