it was the best pic,
it was good how it was in focus on the head and then towards the end of the body it went out of focus.

I agree with this, you deserved to win - and a good bit of canvassing always helps! Looking forward to pics

Use the macro shot (tulip) It also helps zooming in as far as possible using the digital zoom if possible, you can get great detail!

That's the mode I normally use for all my pics of the snakes and fish......I think sometimes the lighting isn't great in here either which doesn't help.

I would suggest you don't use digital zoom actually, as it does not add any resolution to the picture, so you could create the same picture (in fact of higher quality) just by cropping the original image.
 
I've tried digital zoom before but they never come out as good. I normally have it in sport/moving mode too which helps alot with the fish pics.
