I was on my computer and glanced over at my fish tank to see two of my opaline gouramis (wich i bought yesterday, along with a 3rd) attacking each other??

it looked like it was ramming into it and biting it then going a few cm away and ramming n biting again. Those two had gone really dark blue and the 3rd went really pale blue.

A few minutes afterwards they had stopped fighting and started swimming again.

It looked serious
.....30 gallon tank....plants..som neons and a small angel

Was this fighting or jsut playing around?

I would say this was fighting
Iread that some of these fish--usually males --can be quite aggressive and territorial and will first bully other gouramis and then start on the other tank inhabitants!
Ive got 2 myself--1 male and 1 female-and no bother so far although that may change if they take a notion of breeding
I think its another of those situations that depend on thepersonality of the individual fish
I was also told that sometimes they can be a bit rough when they move into a new tank(establishing territory?) but they may settle down
Sorry I cant be of more help but good luck

Probably fighting mate. Really inebitable in the same tank with most species of gourami. They do tend to get quite territorial. Hang out a bit longer, and f they persist, remove the trouble maker.

Floating plants can also calm down gourami aggression, especially in the male!

I had 4 Blue three Spots and 2 Gold in the same tank they did the same thing you are talking about. The gold ones werent as bad, often minding their own business else where, but they were also smaller then the blue ones...I had to take all of them out becuase they were tormenting each other and making my other fish nervous...In doing that I have created another problem with a red tail shark, who is now the biggest fish in the tank, who thinks he is king of the tank and chases anything that gets near his castle...Now I gotta take him out, I guess the gouramis kept him in line when they were in there...

thanks guys,
there calming down a little now and only do that once every 2 days or so, but still chase each other around.
I think it could work out.
