my betta's been through the wars, possibly has another bacterial infection (tiny white lump on one of his dangly fins)......he's been through so many meds cos of himself and other fish I want to boost his immunity and general health......can people suggest foods, vitamins and minerals, anything to help boost my betta's immunity back up, I'm going to take him off meds and keep water super clean with daily 25% changes and a bit of salt also......so yeah I just need as much help as I can to get Odin back to 'fighting' condition :)

any idea on vitamins or food for boosting health and immunity?
What's the spa thing called, I'll look it up....worth a go :) ! :good:

Live food will help boost a bettas immune system. I feed mine live food every other day when they aren't as perky as usual. Betta spa actually helps reduce the ammonia in the water naturally, and is also an antibacterial. Don't use salt with it, there is a warning on the bottle. I have to order my betta spa, but I think it is worth it.

oh yes someone else suggested that, need to look it up, there's salt in my tank at the moment but that can be removed with water changes :) :good:

I agree with everyone else, IAL or betta spa, live food and a bit of aquarium salt.
can the salt stay if i use IAL and not betta spa??
Going to get him some more varied food, he already gets a bit of garlic juice with his food now.
Any idea what banana leaves are good for with bettas?

I'm pretty sure banana leaves have some of the same properties as IAL. I have no idea about using salt with IAL either but remember to remove the leaves and put in fresh ones after a few days or they'll begin to rot.

Ok....I'll see if I can buy a big pack of them, that way I can keep using them every few days for 2-3 weeks, help put Odin in tip top condition :)
Reakon the tannins will look nice too!

Live and/or frozen foods will keep your bettas in great shape. Dry foods anlone will keep their colours dull and they will not be as lively.
I also suggest very elevated temperatures. 80-82. These keep your bettas completely free of disease, and their immune system very high. I have never used betta spa... But I do what works best for me :D

Monicas on a ball lol, i was about to say its difficult to get live food for a few people i use frozen foods! especially brineshrimp and daphina!

I think I'd prefer to go with frozen, no nasties can get in with live food then, how do you feed frozen food??

Go buy a slab, or in cubes of frozen brine shrimp (I have found this works best).
Then you can take a small cheese knife (This is what I use, but others use different things) And take out a chunk. You can let it defrost in warm water and feed, or do as I do, and allow it to quickly de-frost on the knife, then dip it in the water, and it will immediately be ready for them to eat. Then you just pack it back up and back to the freezer it goes. My cubes have been lasting me for the last few months. Great for conditioning too!
