Went for a trip over to Peterborough to have a look at The Waterzoo and Maidenhead Aquatics where timmystood works. Had a great day out with my 4y/o daughter and my Uncle and obviously purchased some live stock aswell!!! :good: :good:

The Waterzoo washuge compared to what it looked like from the outside and they had some nice livestock although the tanks weren't as full as I was hoping for midweek and they didn't have a huge amount of my type of stock, (which is not a dig at the store), however, I did find the staff a little unhelpful and as there weren't many of them about either I ended up leaving a little earlier than expected with a few back issues of PFK, always good to have, and just some Java moss. To be honest I knew I wasn't purchasing livestock here as I was meeting Tim at Maidenhead but the staff weren't to know that were they!!!

Went for a bit to eat and then about 10 miles up the road to Maidenhead where I was in for a treat!!! I envy anyone within a 15 mile radius of this place, I wouldn't go anywhere else and I think my G/F would be taking out an injuction for the kids! Amazing display tanks, great livestock, a good feel about the place and it doesn't hurt when you know a member of the staff from this forum to give you the guided tour!!! Tim was really good and I can see why George (Farmer) uses this place regular. The livestock was of a very high standard and I'm sure Tim will back me up and say I was caught in approx. 8 minds about which Corydoras to purchase.

I went with the intention of 1 shoal of 1 type of Cory and an L-number and despite numerous ribbing from Tim :p to get 4 of each, Panda and Zygatus I stuck to my guns and with a lot of willpower and a tough time for Tim trying to catch good-sized fish I came away with a great shoal of 8 Pandas. Tim, I will be back in approx. 8 weks hopefully for Zygatus or Venezuelanus so mak sure you keep hem stocked up well. :p

Also purchased a Queen Arabesque which I really liked the look of, L-260 and they all seem to have settled down really well. Once again, thanks to Tim and to the forum for making 2 more members into friends. I have tons more to say about the place but the post would just drag, put simply, make a visit to Maidenhead at P'boro very high on the agenda. If there is anyone local to myself, Leicester/Leicestershire and would like to car share for a trip in a couple of months then I am ore than open to offers.

that's great that members could meet at an LFS! Im so jealous, it just doesn't seem like we have the "huge, amazingly stocked" LFS's here in the US compared to you UK'ers!

Itt's his birthday today aswell, Happy Birthday Timmystood.

Obviously i'm gonna say we're a good shop but I would encourage you to come and see for yourself! I work there full-time so chances are i'll be in - just ask for me! It's also worth giving me a PM just to check i'll be there but I love meeting with forum members.
Glad to hear that you were pleased with your visit John! I know you found it tough which corydoras to go for!

Anyway, see you in there soon and hopefully some other forum members can pop in and i'll give you the tour!

BTW - thanks for the birthday messages :D

Hi Timmy,
Hope you had a good birthday.
I plan on popping to your branch in the next few weeks so I'll PM you before I visit if you don't mind. We are regular visitors of your Harlestone store in Northampton and are really impressed with it.
I've heard that your branch is really good and am looking forward to dropping in. :good:

Hi timmystood you to far for me so won't bother coming. :hyper:

i drove to Maidenhead Aquatics, peterborough from norwich but they didn't have any apistogrammas but the staff where all very friendly, told me they didn't get much call for them. the tanks were spotless all the fish really healthy and i did pick up a copy of the mergus cichlid 1 atlas by Uwe Römer which i had been looking for for ages

Yeah no problem Stang - it will be nice to meet you! Hopefully you'll be impressed with the store as ghent_3rd has!
I've no doubt that I will, especially if you have a nice Pleco selection... :hey:

Well, ghent_3rd is the best judge of how good our Plec section is! :hyper:

Pah! England's small enough it's never TOO far!!

Glad you managed to fine the book you were after and also pleased you thought the livestock was well cared for!

Unfortunatley your right, we don't get much call for the apistrogrammas

The plecs are quality, I picked up a lovely specimen of L-260, Queen Arabesque. Cracking looking fish, coloured right back up to full potential within 24 hours of being added to tank despite 1 1/2 hour journey. I think that it is great testament to the staff there that there fish are in such good hape. The rest of the plecs were awesome too, a good amount of various stock and I could have spent well more than I did with a larger wallet and larger tank!!!! There were some really nice L-134's aswell that tempted me but I had problems with one of these last time and struggled to get it to eat and it went down on me pretty quickly so I gave it a miss this time.

Despite the distance I'm already planning my next journey for my next plec and shoal of corys!!! It's well worth the visit and as I said earlier if anyone wants to carshare from Leicester wuith me or even get a few of us to meet up there one day I think it would be well worth it, I'm sure Tim would make us feel welcome and I don't think his bosses would mind 4 or more fish-mad guys spending the morning/afternoon there and spending their cash aswell!! Might be something I try and sort out in the next couple of months if there is enough interest from people with access to P'boro??
