A good assortment today....very impressive. Got a large green tiger lotus to go with my red one. Got a patch of potted dwarf hairgrass and some more rotala walichii (sp?). So, I come upon the jars that hold the Riccia portions. I have been unsuccessful with every attempt to attach riccia, so I took the lazy, expensive way out and bought a big piece of driftwood that had some Riccia attached, instead of laboriously making another attempt. It doesn't look good in the tank yet, nor do my 'glossos' , which I put in patches all across the front, foreground of the tank, hoping I'll finally get a cover (I don't know with just over two watts per gallon (130 watts/6700k for 55 gallons and a fermentation CO2 kit that is typically geared for 40 gallons). My clown loaches also seem to be digging up stuff more than before. I may have to trade them in....my gold nugget seems to be MUCH less of a problem.
At any rate, I came across some portions, in jars, labeled duckweed. Now, I was very intrigued about these floating plants, but I decided against it. Is this a plant that will multiply to the point that it will block out all of my lighting and make the tank a mess? I think it would be...
At any rate, the tank looks good, though I am still battling the algae with doses of Excel every other day and recent overdoses/syringe methods during water changes (weekly and up to 40 percent). I have used algae destroyer every four to 7 days, but I still see black hair and blue green algae (this is advanced algae destroyer, and I opened it five year ago, so I wonder if it is effective at this point). I think I need to upgrade CO2, but I don't want to use more than another inexpensive system to supplement the fermentation kit (any ideas?). If I had the money, I'd add a good CO2 system and a UV sterilization unit, but the economy is terrible right now in the USA, and it has hit my home full force. At any rate, I'll post a new video of my tank over the weekend, and I'd appreciate any feedback, particularly on the glossos (if they look to be planted correctly) and hair algae situation.
