I FOUND ONE I DID IT!!!!!!!!!! I haven't been in this thread for a while but I managed to find a Betta Smaragdina male for sale on the website of an aquarium shop 2hrs from me! This means that hopefully after the summer if we're going up to Dublin I could rescape the tank I'm gonna keep him in and finally get my dream fish!!!!!!! The best thing is, he's the cheapest wild betta on the website, all others are from 70 to 100 euro and the Betta Smaragdina is only 20 euro!! I am so sososososooso excited to get him but I'll have to wait until after summer hols...

Haha so they went and ramped the price up to 70 euro (!!!!!!) per fish, so I kinda gave up on that seller.
HOWEVER the Aquarium shop that i have a work experience placement in has found a supplier that sells Betta Smaragdina, and I have asked them to order them for their next delivery.... And... because i work there for free basically... I only have to pay.... 6 EURO PER FISH, INSTEAD OF 70 !!!!!!!!!!!!

Get a couple of prs because something always happens when you only get a single pr. Get 3 or 4 prs and if one male or female dies, you have others to work with. If you only have 1pr and one of the fish decides to commit suicide, you are stuffed.

Meet Fred! He is still a baby, and will colour up plenty still! He is so cute im so happy that i finally got the fish of my dreams!!!

He died today... I haven't even been able to find the body, and no way to get anymore. This really is a villain origin story

You're still well within the plot of a fish quest tale. The first smaragdina always dies in those stories, as a bit of villainy. You stick with it, and the second pair arrives at a good price and breeds like mad. But you discover this is but the first stage of the quest, and you see a picture of Betta coccina that sears itself into your soul.

It's an ancient, pre-ordained story. You have no choice. It is your destiny.

Meet the new kids! I am hoping desperately that its a male and 2 females, but I know there is at least one confirmed female here

I spent much more money than I expected for them, but then I suppose I did get the first one for free.....

Still I am very hopeful and happy, they are also very young but already beautiful babies
