I currently have 3 tanks setup. A 55gallon saltwater with 10gallon sump/refugium, a 20gallon freshwater tank, and a 40gallon freshwater tank with 20gallon sump and 10gallon refugium.
The freshwater tank I am really proud of. I just got it all setup and finished today. Most people don't put sumps/refugiums on freshwater tanks, but I don't see why you wouldn't. I have my main tank with my fish in it(stingray, bichirs, needle fish), then my sump tank for added water volume, place to put equipment, and also added biological filtration(I will be sectioning it off and putting in bio balls); I then have my 10gallon refugium attached which houses 5 different types of live plants.(also good for both FW and SW as plants take nitrates and phosphates out of the water and add oxygen)
You can check out all my videos at www.youtube.com/earthling1984
I have some good advice on overflow boxes and sumps, and also a 300GPH DIY overflow box that costs under $7.50!
Happy Fish Keeping!
