i bought 3 smallish guppies today 2 female and 1 snake skin male what came to £4.50. as i was choosing my females i choose the ones what look the fattest and helthiest as you do. got home floated them for about 10 mins then started letting water in the bag every 5 mins. let them out eventually with the light still off and went to these extra gcse science lessons (i know i must be mad going in on a saturday) came home turned on the lights and the guppies are realy settling in they are very energetic more than what they were in the pet shop. i went downstairs to the freezer to get some frozen brineshipm as their first meal and fed them it. as they were eating i noticed i had FRY. i have only spotted 2-3 but i think there are bound to be more. i am just going to leave them in the tank and let nature take its place because i am already fully stocked as each guppy is just over an inch apart from the male he is an inch. it is amazing watching the fry adapt to escape from their parrents

one question. my females are acting rather weird. they are like wrapping with eachother and pecking at eachothers body and lip locking. are they doing this for domminancy.
here is a picture of the 2 femals and you can just see the males tale in the back ground

and here is a video of them because they are too fast to take pictures of. you cannot see the males colours properly in the vid

thanks.

i have tried to get pics of the snake skin but he is too fast lol.

just got a snap shot of one of the babies but it isnt that good of quality as i had to zoom in and it was taken with my mobile phone.

Congrats!
I bred guppies and mollies at one point, its great to watch them start to develop their colour!
It is most likely that they are doing it for dominancy to win the males. I wouldn't worry about it. They should stop once the dominant one has been chosen. They look like good females tho!

Good luck with your GCSEs aswell, i'm doing mine at the minute to! Just revising now!

:good:

here are some more pics of fry and my snake skin male as i finally managed to get a decent picture of him

Very Nice! I love your male! Those fry look pretty big for guppy fry! Must have a healthy mother fish to make them that big! Good luck and keep us updated with pic's adn vid's!

i was thinking that when i took the picture but i think the picture overexadurates their size a little lol. they are about 1 cm in size. the female guppies are a realy good size about 2 inch they are and the male is about an inch which is why i cannot have any more fish in my tank i didnt realise the size of them until i got home but i am happy with them. i will kee you updated.

anyone know why the females were acting like this they have stopped now. i went out today to the lfs and seen a smaller guupy at just under 1 inch anddecided to get it. it is also femals so now the 2 big females ae at 2 iches each so the 1" to every gallon works out 4 gallons for them the male and the new female are 1" each so thats an extra 2 gal which works out at 6 gal so i am fully stocked now.
i think one of the females had a few more babies over night as it is becoming easier to spot the babies but i still havent counted more than 3.
thanks for any replys

just counted 5 babies lol just thought i would let you know. they are starting to group now the babies and come out of hiding becuase they are safer in numbers they are eating frozen brine shrim eagerly which i was supprised by as they are only a day old

here is another vid of the 1 day old fry. one has been eaten and t was the biggest one. the other 4 are doing ok though. i have mashed up some frozen brineshrimp ad they are quite happily eating it alog with crushed flake and crunched protein pellets

Cute pictures of the fry. That looks like a pretty rough neighborhood for a guppy fry. Too many adults and not enough cover for a good survival rate. If you actually want to save some, I suggest you at least double the cover for them.

they have been managing opk there is a stack of slate what covers tha bcack of the tank and they use that for hiding if threatened and the substrate is quite big i have seen them go under that a few times before. i will go out and get sme plants as i can see your point but the plants i have are growing realy well.
thanks for the advice

Hey Kribensis!

Love that second fish on the right - is it an Icthus fish?

Did you line breed that writing or was it tattoed on?

well one of my females has started giving birth i seen one come ot when she was close t the ground and the baby just dropped into the stones. she has had atleast 2 because i have seen them swimming around. these are alot smaller than the other babies but the mother they come from is the smallest female.
also my fish have been scraching on the substrate and on plants but no signs of ich. could it be ich. i have turned the temprature up to 82 degrees.
i have tried getting pics of these babies but they are just too small. the fry what are almost 1 week old are realy coming along and are starting to get black paturns on their body. they are about the size of a grain of rice.
thanks for any help
