Well....I've had this one female betta for over a year, and now she is gone :byebye: she was in a 20 gallon tank with 5 other females, and I walked over to feed them and I saw my favorite female betta laying on my floor :-(
I have no idea why she would jump, I'm thinking one of the other females was picking at her or just chasing her and annoying her but I could be wrong  Her fins were fine :dunno: The water level isn't too high cuz I know they jump. I don't have a lid for that tank but now I REALLY wish I had one...

Here's a couple pics of her, her name was Boink -_-

:rip: Boink :-(

such nice colors
I've got one just like that, except it's a crowntail!

Bettas will jump if they need to! At least you're learned a valuable lesson

For bowls, I found out a cool way to make cd covers more reliable, look for it!

Yah, I'm gonna leave less water in the tank from now on until I can get a lid, what you see in the second pic is where the water level usually is.

Sorry to hear that. Bettas can jump when you least expect it. I have mine females in a 10 gallon commnity tank with a fliter, light, and hood etc... and during feeding time my green female named Emerald jumped and hit the carpet. She got wayyyy to exicted. I scooped her up and ploped her back in and she made it ok.

Then a couple of months later, I went on vacation for a month and a half. I hired someone to come to my house and feed my fish daily. Well Emerald, the enthusiastic jumper she is during feeding time must have jumped out. When I got home I noticed something different about my tank so I looked at old pictures of my tank then I realized that she wasn't in there. I had my roommate look for her behind the tank and there she was. Dead. I was sooo upsete. I couldn't even look at her.

Sometimes no matter how careful you are w/having a lid on your tank, accidents happen. I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I understand.

awwww :-( That is to bad..she was so pretty. Atleast now she can jump to her hearts content..without any consequence.

Thanks guys, but guess what?? She's alive :hyper:
When I noticed her on the floor I put her in a bucket of water (water from the 20) cuz I heard bettas can live for awhile out of water before they dry up. As I was going to say bye for good, I noticed she started jumping in the net, I thought I was seeing things  so I put her back in the bucket (while she was in the net still) and I see her fins moving and she was trying to swim :hyper:

So now I'm going to give her, her own tank and treat her with salt...I thought I lost her but she stayed with me

Thanks again guys :D

Sorry to here about Emerald, jacquelyn

I'm so happy to hear she is still w/you. She's a real trooper! Mrs. Rambo Fishie! :flex:

Thanks everyone! :D

I hope (and pray) she makes it over night. So far she is swimming around but she's not swimming normal, she swims kind of 'head down'

I was so happy to find out she was still alive

Sorrell ~ They are amazing fish, aren't they? they are so tough :hyper: gotta love'em

Glad to hear she's still alive Whiskerz! I hope she makes it, and recovers fully.

A cheap alternative if you don't have a lid is to use some plastic canvas sheets and lay them on top of your 20 gallon tank (you can usually get these from craft stores, alot of people use these as do it yourself tank dividers as well).

The plastic canvas sheets come in different sizes, and allow air flow, and also can help prevent your betta from jumping out of the tank.

My first reaction was  noooo that sounds so bad

then I thought :hyper: wow she's still alive!

Good luck with her, hope she continues to improve

One of my girls managed to jump out of the opening in the hood when I fed them and landed smack on the floor once. Luckily I heard her hit the laminate flooring and scooped her straight back in. For around an hour she was just quiet and nose down in the corner of the tank, but she soon livened up and her colouring was better after that
