Hi all i had a call off my friend on sunday. They found there oscar dead. This is where it gets a little strange the oscar was found on the floor in there front room where there tank is. The oscar had got out of the tank but the strange part is the lid was down. Can an oscar escape from the tank with the lid down and if so how the heck did it do it? very conffused!???? Any throughts???

I've lost a one fish like that but only when I was cleaning the tank. Wouldn't have though it would even be able to jump so hard that a think plastic lid would open.

x 3.

I'm guessing he's jumped so hard he's hit the lid open. I know how big oscars can get and they're very powerful. My Bala shark could easily knock a plastic lid open if he hit it hard enough.

I imagine an oscar could even open a thin timber hood.

P.S. sorry to hear about the loss.

I supposed it could have jumped at the lid which momentarily opened, fish went plonk into the floor, and the lid closed shut behind it.

We had a customer buy a 1.5' arrowana from us just before last christmas. Even though they had placed objects on top of the lid of the tank it still managed to get out! They found it under the christmas tree!
