So I was just cleaning my aquarium while thinking of how to decorate for incoming halloween and got the idea of using some whiteboard markers or simillar to doodle something silly onto (the outside of, obviously) the aquarium glass. However it kind of got me curious if it would somehow stress out my fish? For context I only own a common pleco, and I doubt mr tubby over here would give a rats bottom if I doodled onto the glass– and if this would be an issue with any other fish at all?

This might take the cake for the dumbest question on this site but at last here I am asking it 🤷

Outside the glass, it's fine. If you have Ancistrus, they could go mad wanting to eat pumpkin drawings. A well drawn skeleton would cause yearning in the scavenger community, and Cardinals might not go in for devil images. But if it stays out of the tank and out of the water (and is easy to remove later), go for it.

Images with fishnet stockings might terrify fish.

I think Ill be fine aslong as i dont draw a zucchini, watermelon or shrimp onto the glass, because i fully believe he would through sheer willpower munch a hole in it.

Maybe ill avoid drawing any heron or osprey aswell 🤔, the idea of a pleco of all fish pooping its pants makes me nervous for my aquariums bioload

We used white paint markers to write on tanks all the time at the shop. The fish didn't care and ignored the text.

What if its a super spooky text? Though i guess id have to really practice my mirrored handwriting to pull that off

we used to write how many fish died in the tank and put "x number of dead fish in here" on the glass. That probably spooked the fish a bit.
