I have a very pregnant molly in my tank I would like to put her in the breeders net, but I already have two baby fish in there and I dont want them to get eatin. But, I thought if I did put her in there it would help her hormones along to where she will see them and think that those are her babies and she will have some fry, would that work or does that just sound stupid?

hmm, y could always by another breeders net, they arent' to expenisve, i say go for it.

yeah thats what I was thinking of doing in the fiirst place. wait, oppositearmor when you said "i say go for it" did you mean that by I sould put her in or get another net?

yea I am going to get another net. I will try to get a good pic of her

If she doesn't have her fry in 2-3 days, take her out. Mollies are really too big for Breeder Nets, and they will get stressed out easier then a Guppy or Platy will. You don't want her aborting fry or having birthing troubles. :)

ok, that's another note i have to take down when it comes to breeding livebearers.

I'm full of these little tips...unfortuantly, I tend to ramble on too much with my tips. :/

lol thats ok I will take all the help I can get  . Ok I have another question too. Right now I have the 3 mollies (1 male 2 females) in a 20 gallon with 6 platys and 3 medium sized cories. I just got the mollies yesterday. Now in the 20 gallon the ph is really low, the only readon the other fish arent dying is because I have had them for years and they are immune to it. So I was thinking of putting all three of them in a 29 gallon with 2 small angel fish that arent agressive at all and 6 very small albino cories, in this tank the ph is neutral and the temperature is higher so I thought it would be better for them. Also I want to move them because the male platys are trying to breed with the female mollies and I dont want this to happen. What do you think?

Male Platies can't breed with Mollies, they are a different genus. So no worry about hybrids. :)

And it's really up to you where to put them. Mollies can acclimitise to really any p.H you want, as long as it's not ridiculously low or high (i.e 5 or 9). The 29 however will be better for them, because it gives them more room. They grow to 6" max...so just a thought. Angelfish can become aggressive as they grow, but the Mollies should be able to hold their own. Also, Angels are good fry control (Sounds cruel, I know...but otherwise you will be totally over-run. We are talking up to 150 fry PER batch).

yeah the angels arent agressive at all they used to be with little tiny tetras and once they found out that they were living things they left them alone and didnt bother them at all. I am pretty sure the only way they would fight is if they were trying to protect themselves. So do you think I should move them? I thought it would be a good idea, but wanted to get some feed back on it

Once they grow, they get more aggressive usually. Especially if they are a pair. I think you should move the Mollies, just to give them more room. However, watch the Angels as they grow, because they can start harrassing the Mollies, or even killing them if they feel threatened. Most Angels are usually okay with the fish if they grow up with them though. However, there is always an exception. :p

ok thank you for the advice if they start to get a gressive with them then I will move the mollies. Since the angels are only a little bit bigger and are fairly new to the tank, I am hoping they will be ok with them for now.

wow, wow, wow, did u say three posts up mollies can get up to 6 inches?! i thought they only get up to four!
