I think bloo may be on to something. If the monster fish aren't in stock then you want have the kids saying I want that fish (to go in my ten gallon) Anyone who has a tank big enough to house these fish should be willing to wait the 2 weeks for the fish to be special ordered. I've heard the argument that potentially big fish simply should not be stocked and that irritated me. This sounds like a great solution. sadly many fish stores are only interested in selling fish and will muck up your tank intentionally so that your fish die and you buy more or if they live you end up buying bigger and bigger tanks until you have an empty wallet and a pond in your living room. great idea bloo. Maybe a boycott of stores that stock potential monsters without proper labeling could achieve something...

The solution can be as simple. What I’ve seen a couple of shops do is to section the fish tanks so it’s easier for you find suitable fish. for example community section all tanks in that area with small community fish a clear label explaining a little about each section, then a section for larger community fish & so on you get the idea, with a little planning easy to do. Obviously you should do your research but many when they start out impulse buy cute little fishes (me included) & a lot of lfs just presume if you’re buying it you’ve got the setup for it. So I think the above solution should go some way to preventing you buying fish that are inappropriate for your tank.
