Very Naughty Fish Shop.

Unfortunately not, you're lucky to get two words out of them let alone any form of conversation.

I dont think just one shop of there is really enough too sway me actually. the company may not have been aware?

Why would a company which promotes medicine for fish distrubute dyed fish?

A garden centre I was in the other day (forget the name I'm afraid but they're in Wallington) has red-tailed cats with a recommended tank size of three feet, same for the irridescent sharks and BGKs. Shocking.

They only have the one shop, not a chain.

As for their stocking practices who knows why they get the fish they do in?

Oh i see. Strange. Maybe someone should check out their current state, they may have changes? lol.

I think that's pretty aweful then :/ How are people to know that cute little red tail catfish are to grow into mosters ? Yes, everyone should do research, but how many people do ?

Even if the shop does give out good info you still get the ***** who will buy a RTC for thier four foot tank & who "are going to get" a bigger, massive, huge, tank or pond.
These are the fish that appear on aquarists classified at a foot long having outgrown their tanks.
My nearest LFS has signs saying needs huge tank 8' + and an adult on display but still gets people asking if they will fit in a 200 litre tank. They do hold expensive fish while people get their tanks sorted.

Any shop selling dyed or tatood fish needs boycotting though.

Which actually makes me really mad :grr: . I mean come on : how many average aquarists have massive 8ft tanks ? That's just so unfair to the fish. It's not helped by the fact that these fish are usually fairly cheap as Juvis and look so cute - and it's far too easy for anyone to just go in and buy one.

Honestly, shops should just not sell fish like that and should only be sold on special order.

CFC has effectively answered any questions. Thanks CFC.
I would like to mention one more thing about this shop.....they have 2 fish for sale that they claim to be a hybrid of a red tailed cat and a tiger shovelnose.I am not sure this is even possible, but these said fish look really strange. They are charging £48 per fish and they have 2 of them.Just a bit more info.....tis all.

RTCxTSN hybrids are fairly common these days and are a off shoot of aquaculture for the food industry, by crossing the genes of these two fish you end up with a very large and incredibly fast growing hybrid, good news for poverty line families in poorer countries of the world, bad news for fish keepers without 1200 gallon tanks.

I know Wholesale Tropicals are probably the same - as in they do not mark the tanks (with all the tiny fish that grow into monsters) but whenever someone wants a fish from one of these tanks or has an enquiry, their size and nature are always discussed and warned about. Could this not be the case here too ?

More often than not you have to own a fish selling business before you can gain access to a wholesaler.

Sounds like petsmart.. apparently pacu only need 30g tanks and only grow to 6''.

I had a hilarious encounter at petsmart in the USA (Im from Canada).. the girl first dropped my fish on the floor, then couldn't figure out how to get it off the floor.. she dragged it along the floor with the net and tried to jam it into a plastic container.. most of its tail was missing after that.. then she just put it back into the container and decided to bag it.. I didn't bother asking for her to catch another fish, as I figured she would probably just mess that up too.. Then she filled the bag with 80% water, and couldn't figure out why she couldn't tie it.. someone else told her to empty some water and get a larger bag.. that took her 10 minutes. Then she decided to stop and talk to another customer for 5 minutes. Right when I asked her if she could help me, she dropped a large rock ornament on 2 gouramis and killed them both.

I'm pretty patient, but even I was losing my patience after 15 minutes of dealing with this girl.

Gotta love the ''special'' fish stores that everyone loves to hate.

The name is misleading unfortunately - and actually put me off for a long time even checking it out (just as well, saved me many pennies!).

Many years ago they used to be a Wholesaler - but they are now purely (and have been for many years), a retailer.
