1. How many gallons is the tank and what is its stocking? ----- tank is 60litre. stocking guppies 8, mollies 1, various tetras 8 and 3 small bottom feeders. ( know i'm overcrowded and in process of gettin a new tank x
2. How many fish have died over the last 3months, what were they and what were their symptoms? ---- lost 2 mollies and a gup (gup got stressed during pregnancy i think) mollies were fine one minute, hour later sunk to bottom with hardly any movement and died very quickly. No signs of any ailments (spot, fungi, eye problems etc etc)
3. What is your average tank cleaning/maintanence regime and how do you go about it + how often?---- tank has 2 filters running, one on top air blowing position, the other on bottom position (fluval u2). filters on all the time and are well established. sponges squeezed out in emptied tank water (during a water change) alternately every 1-3 weeks or so depending on saturation. both filters have 2 sponges each so i squeeze one sponge out one week then the other sponge the next week. sponges not rinsed in tap water. 20% water change is done 1-2 times a week whilst hoovering some of the gravel too. replacement water is tap water with with conditioner and aquarium salt (1 teaspoon per 20l). ocasionally nitrite remover if needed.
4. Have you tested the tanks water for ammonia, nitrites & nitrates and if so what were the results? tested for all of them, no nitrate whatsoever and amonia and nitrite only a trace(nitrite less than 0.05mg/l)
5. What have you added to the tank? over the last few weeks i have added an aquarium safe hidy hole for my bottom feeders. and 2 live plants.
6. Is the fish showing any other symptoms other than lying on the bottom of the tank on its side (rapid or laboured breathing, red gills, ragged looking fins, bloated or skinny stomach, white/string poop etc)? fishy unfortunately died. no other signs, skin and fins in lovely condition, gills fine, no bloating, poop fine. was a very lively member of the aquarium, to be honest he was a bit of a terror. by far the most dominant and largest in the tank (even bigger than my plec!!!!) in the tank.
my only theory at the mo is that one of my guppies had a brood in the main tank without me knowing. I saved 11 which are all in a breeding tank (soon to be moved to a nano when bit bigger and can't be sucked up by filter) 11 babies could mean that tere wer ALOT eaten. and him being the biggest most dominant thing he could have had an all you can eat buffet!
