Very Frustrating!

Whatever anyone says, the less the fish, the bigger the tank, the happier they are. An understocked tank with compatible tank mates will be a lot happier place for the inhabitants. Unfortunately we all can't resist the temptation and most of us don't have room for many tanks, so that's why the stocking level term, to give us some common sense boundaries what to put and how many to put.
Everytime I've added new fish, I can see the older ones being more stressed and change of behaviour, though they settle eventually, the habits do change.

If I had a choice, I'd have a zoo at home. I have a cat, a dog and three fish tanks( I live in an apartment, maybe I already have a zoo  ) I really had to pull myself out of the fish shop yesterday not to buy a lonely cory and a stressed clown loach on his own. And I would love a hamster

Whatever one does, it's on their own conscience. No one is excused that they didn't do their own research prior to getting an animal/fish home and then can't take proper care of the requirements they have.

And I guess my home is overstocked too

erm uh....erm :cough: 6 ummm fish tanks...a dog and a cat...:cough:

not to mention that my 55g has about 600 fish in it :p

Ive seen people make a fuss over someone that was supposedly two inches over stocked. And if its a newbie, no matter what they post (is my platy preg, my new betta, what kind of plants grow in low light et cet) they are borderline harassed for their water parameters even tho it had nothing to do with the post.

Of course when someone posts about behavior or health problems absolutely. But its almost creepy how over the top some fish activists can be.

Also, when someone is asking for help with an outbreak in a tank i often see replies guiding the poster to buy more of the shoaling fish that they dont have enough of. Hellooooo the tank is sick. And if their fish were fine together for months or years leave it alone!

It also irks me when you write out the details and someone doesnt even bother reading it all the way and starts spewing generic beginner lessons.

I have to say i agree with every point you make here....well said!

I personally couldn't give to flying monkeys of I get criticism in my eyes it's for the greater good of my fish. And helps my husbandry

My neighbour is massively over stocked

He has a 60-80 litre tank max

He has that I have seen

4 gouramis
5 mollie fry ( got from me)
3 Micky mouse fry ( got from me )
Atleast 10 guppies
At least 10 mollies and a few are quite large
A couple of sword tails
And a few more fish

He's a old boy so telling him different is out the question

One of he's gouramis ( blue one ) is coming to me as he's asked me to take it off his hands

That's a cracking sterlet mate!!!

Sterlet ???
Did you mean statement ???

It's true though guys and girls on here are trying to find out info to make sure everything's ok in your tank.

I can understand from both sides don't get me wrong but others are probably asking to try and understand what's happening in your tank to try and get the bigger picture and help you avoid losing all you prised fish.

I have no idea how my neighbours fish are alive in his tank but somehow they look like they are thriving in my eyes cramped conditions.

Which is prob why he's asked for me to take the blue gourami off his hands as he Said its getting boisterous.

I'm far from a " expert " as I'm still learning if anything I would class myself as a begginner as 3 years of keeping fish is really nothing in my eyes

So criticise away you'll only help me get better

Ahhh no I went carp fishing in France for a week and managed to land 36lb sturgeon.

Never caught one in my life before and the fight it put up was incredible.

I hooked another one that was bigger in size than in my pic and it snapped 40lb braid line as it saw me just before I went to land it took off like a freight train.

Thankfully the line snapped as I was trying to stop it as my line was almost gone within 15 seconds.

If you ever get the chance then I'd say go for it you won't be dissapointed at that weight and above

A sterlet is a sturgeon, superb fish! They can reach about 9 foot though i bet you already knew that. They look so prehistoric it's untrue

Sterlets and sturgeon are different species (well, there are a few different species in each family), although very closely related.

Based on my own limited (3 years so far) experience, I will steer a new fish keeper toward the 1 inch per gallon rule for ANY tank that is not at least a year old. My tank was SO MUCH more stable after 12 months. Prior to that I could mini-cycle with just a gentle cleaning of the filters.

I know that rule is not perfect, and stocking should account for so much more as Arizona rightfully pointed out, but for immature tanks I think it is beneficial to the fish to go with it.
