hes been lurking near the filter... just floating around, for a couple of days now, but he had no other symptoms so I didnt know how to treat him.

Now he is REALLLLy bloated... looks like hes going to pop! I have also forgotten the illness that causes bloating so have forgotten what to treat him with.

I have myxazin and protozin.

help?

Could be internal parasites or a swimbladder disease. Can he swim upright or does he swim at a funny angle? If it's swimbladder then you might be able to correct it by either feeding a small amount of crushed pea, or I've heard that some have given an Epsom Salts dip but I've never tried that so not sure of quantities of salts per litre of water - you'd need to check that with someone who's tried it.

forgot...

20g tank
8 emperor tetra, 2 golden rams
Am- 0
Nitrite- 0
Nitrate- 10
Ph - 7.2
Temp- 26

Both rams are just sort of floating around a lot whereas they used to be very active. One is extremely bloated, the other looks fine mostly. They aren't eating much but used to go nuts at feeding time.

I recently moved home, so perhaps stress has induced illness in them? I moved them around a week and a half ago.

Hi athena.

He can swim as normal but just doesn't do it much.

I think that its protozin that I should treat with. Is this correct?

Well, if you can't see any signs of fungus or whitespot I wouldn't use Protozin - and that won't help swimbladder disease if that's what it is.

The Myxazin will treat for any bacterial infections, so out of the two that's the one to go for - but, like I said, it could be a simple swimbladder problem that needs fixing.

weird question... but is it possible its pregnant/carrying eggs? ive always assumed it was a male, but the other ram is sorta protecting it... like it has some kind of vested interest whereas they normally fight.

I will try the pea anyhow. i'm not sure how I can get just the ram to eat the pea, but ill give it a go.

no signs of white spot no. I will give the pea a go and if not, do a course of myxazin.

Thanks

well I decided to get some photos in case it helps. He wouldn't eat the pea... i dropped the bits right infront of him so he had a chance before the others noticed it but he just looked at it then floated away. neither of the rams would eat the pea, but the tetras gobbled away.

so, if someone could check these pics (best I could get sorry) and see if myxazin is the right course of action.

ok... erm... my other ram i just found dead in the tank. the fat ones still alive. He seemed ok in comparison to fatty but died within the last hour.

he wasnt bloated but on closer inspection his gills were inflamed.

It could well be that the Ram is suffering from Dropsy, in which case the bacterial med would be the one to use, although if it is then there is probably little you can do

well today I have noticed him flicking/rubbing against the gravel. Is this dropsy or something else? he does seem to be a bit less bloated today, but maybe thats wishful thinking. He is swimming about more today as well. There are three more days left of the course of myxazin so I am hoping he will recover.

Any ideas on whats actually wrong with him?

Lethargy, flicking/rubbing, off food and very bloated, wouldnt eat the pea I tried him with. He can swim fine when he does swim, but isnt as active as usual. The other gold ram just dropped dead and all I could see wrong with him was red, sore looking gills and I only noticed this after he had died.

edit to add... his fins arent sticking out but his bottom has a kinda white gloup that doesnt seem to move. I havent seen him goto toilet.
