Well i've been into fish since i was a young teenager. And has been my dream to have a monster size aquarium.
Previously i have had a 4 foot skinny (1 foot deep and 1 foot tall), and had recently brought a 5 foot skinny but never set it up.

But i have just put a deposit on a 7 foot x 2 foot x 2 foot =]
Plus in a pine appearence cabinet and hood, so matches our furniture.

It comes with two 250w heaters, 2 light units, air pump, coral sand and a eheim 2028, glass condensation trays, test kits etc etc
I just need to purchase a second eheim 2028, and want a 3d background (must do it first while its empty).
Then its just a matter of plug in and play.

Very very excited, will be sure to do a journal for you all on here!!
Still not sure what im going to stock it with, but will be south-american.

Just wanted to share my excitement!! :)

Does anyone know the volume? I work it out to be just less than 800 liters, but may be wrong?
Also do people think two eheim 2028's be enough filtration (they are each supposed to be for aquarium up to 600 liters)?

The volume is 698 litres, but this is before adding substrate and decor. I would think yes, the two filters should be more than adequate. Nice thing about having 2 externals is that you can, if you want to, clean them in rotation. Hope you have great fun with it :)

My estimatinows make tank out to be 795.5 liters, you will be woefully short on heaters as you only have the wattage to geat 500L (its 1 watt per 1 Liter).

Personally I would look at getting a bigger filter like a fluval FX5 to clear the real waste (keep eheim full of biomedia and you wont have to clean it outso often).

There's a calculator at the top left of the forum page, which conveniently has a volume calculator :good: The tank is just under 793 liters.
I'm not sure how it works out for bigger tanks, but you'd probably want a 3rd heater of that size or bigger to get 1 watt/liter. Also, the Eheim 2028 is only rated for 1050 liters per hour, and that's running empty. Even with 2, that's under 4x turnover, so a 3rd filter might be necessary too.
Congrats! Looking forward to reading the journals!

Nice size!!

I would be looking at putting 2x 500W heaters in something that size. And running 1 or 2 FX5's. Tis all personal preference though.

Looking forward to seeing it come together!

Personally i'd rather run two eheim 2028s than a single fx5. Should one fail, there is a back up and i dont think my filtration would be compromised. And in regard to the heaters, the aquarium is still up and running and holds a steady and required temperature, so have no reason to waste money of more W's.

One a plus note, have just brought a 3d background for it :) and made an offer on a 2nd 2028 so fingers crossed.

i have A 55 gallon and my heater is only rated for a 30gallon. i dont have any issues. the water stays within 75 at night - 76.5 during the day

i check my temps several times daily with a infrared thermometer

Lucky #28###, make sure you get some pics up :good:

:stupid:

I also have a 550litre tank and have one 300w heater in it, it keeps the temperature at 79°f but I do get a bit worried about if it suddenly stopped working so Im wondering if I should buy another one.

I'd always go for 2 smaller heaters over one larger one to build some redundancy into the system. If one goes then the other one will provide an amount of heat and should certainly keep the tank alive until the problem is spotted and fixed.

Also, if one smaller heater goes haywire and the thermostat fails so the heater stays permanently on it will take longer for the water temp to reach a dangerously high level.

Cheers

Oh, and I'm very jealous of your tank. No way I could get such a purchase passed Mrs Danny! Struggled with the 55gal!

Cheers

Well the 3d background arrived today and looks ace! I had to buy enough for a 10 foot aquarium though, so will be selling 3 foot worth in the future. While hoping to recieve the second 2028 i have bought, before this weekend. Should have photos up in the next 7 days.
