My SAE just randomly died. He was doing fine, eating the algae I've got on the tank walls and hiding around whenever the lights were bright (I guess he's nocturnal ;)). However, a couple days ago, I found him lying upside down on the bottom of the tank, completely out of the blue. No other signs that he was going to die, I just found him there. I nudged him and he moved a short distance away and spasmed a little, but otherwise did nothing. The next morning, he was dead.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be? None of the other fish had been bothering him, he was the most peaceful critter in the tank. I have fine ammonia/nitrite levels, temperature is all right, nothing out of the ordinary. Also, none of the other fish are acting strange. I'm just really boggled by all this. :S

well some times it seems like he is ''eating all the algea and everything'' but really that is not enough food, maybe he needed to have some algea wafers to suck on? they are really good for bottom feeders :)

Maybe... I just can't think of anything else that could have gone wrong, other than maybe he found a tiny pebble and sucked it up (not likely, but still), or he didn't like the algae and starved. Nothing else seems to point to his sudden death!

the only thing i could think of would be not enough food too.
algae eaters really need more than just the algae in the tank. if you plan on getting another algae eater make sure you get some algae wafers for it. i recommend Hikari brand :)

How long did you have him before this happened? Were there any new fish introduced to the tank? Do you know how old he was? Im sorry to hear of your loss. I am a sucker for plecs(pun intended)
