Hi all, I have changed from gravel to play sand (which I washed the best I could) for my 46 gallon tank. It has been about an hour since the sand was added and the water is very very cloudy, only about 3-6 inches of visibility at best. Unfortunately I have to leave in 45 minutes. The fish are in a tub of tank water which has been heated (a few minutes ago I moved the heater back to the main tank to get the temperature back up).

My question is will the cloudiness hurt my fish? I'm scared to put them in and not be able to see them, especially if something were wrong. I apologize if this isn't an emergency, but I need an answer quickly to know if I'm ok to relocate the fish. They can't stay in the tub much longer.

Edit: Ended up not leaving, stayed home and canceled plans so I could do what was needed for the fish. I added them all to the tank and they are acting normal, so praying that they all have a good night and aren't bothered too much.

It's quite normal for a tank to go cloudy after adding sand.
Wait till the sand has settled.
It can damage you impellor if the sand hasn't settled.
Add alot of fresh filter floss to the filter also.

The fish should be fine.
When you added the fish back did you match ph and temp.

Also check water stats with changing the substate.
