So, I have this male betta. His name is Blackberry, and when I bought him, he was a steel color. This is what he looks like now. What is up with the stripes? I thought only females got those?

I'm not sure why, but he is beautiful!

Well, are you keeping him in that tiny cup he is pictured in? That probably wouldnt be the cause of the lines as hes probably been in one like it his whole life, but its my best guess that maybe he is stressed due to water quality or space constraints

He was in the cup because I was changing his water :)

And I was actually kinda hoping that it was a pattern, lol. He's so pretty, and other than the stripes, he seems pretty normal :p

its basically the same with males, some lines show and some do not i think. i have males likes this. and like wen u order from sosmewhere, ad you recieve the fish, you'll see its pale and has stress lines, the same practically.

I understand that, but the "stress lines" in question on this betta are vertical. I only asked because someone had said it may be stress due to being in the cup.

It is probably natural coloring of the betta and he is coloring up due to being happy. Dark colored marble betta IMO
