Velvet?

How do you distinguish velvet?

I see a gold fine dust look on one of my bettas, i thought it was velvet, but now I'm thinking it's just coloring because two of my other bettas of the same color has it as well..and it's all on the fins.

Are there any definite symptoms besides shining a light on the betta to look for the gold dust ish?

Do you see any on the scales? I thought my Darby had Velvet too, but I noticed another post with a betta with the same coloring, and he also had the exact same gold flecks on his tail.
Are they exhibiting any signs of lethargy, not eating much, losing color? Those are some of the other signs to keep an eye out for.

Edit: Here is a link to the thread I posted (with pics) of Darby's supposed velvet. The consensus was that it was velvet, but he wasn't showing any other signs of having it, so I have since stopped medication and he seems fine, although he still has the "gold dust" on his fins. I treated at about 1/2 recommended dosage for a week until I saw the other pic of a betta with Darby's coloring and decided it must be something to do with coloring.
