Hi, I am really looking into buying veil fin angels to put into my 55g tank. For those of u that have red my old post about my bad luck with sum angels, I have finally got 2 healthy angels n i have had them for 2 or 3 weeks now. they are very healthy and active,Bout time. But back to the topic are veil fin angels more difficult to take care of, than the more common ones. thanks in advance

They are not harder to keep, they just have longer fins which can be the targets of attacks by other fish. I don't like them as much because their long fins often look torn and ragged because it's just too tempting for the other fish to pass up.

i think their long fins are really cool. im thinking about making my 55g just for angels n possibly keep my bala's too.

while it is true that bala sharks are pretty peaceful and don't pick on fish, they also get quite large. a 55 is the recommended size to house one of them. the adult size of the bala can get to 18".

while they could reside with angels there is a problem. angels require taller tanks, not longer tanks. hex tanks are ideal for angels. when you are choosing tankmates, you need to fulfill the requirements of all the inhabitants. the 55 would provide the length needed for the balas but not the heigth required for the angels

i c. but im hoping to get a 100 gallon by next christmas. n angels take a while to get up to full size so mayb the tank will be temporary.i say next christmas because my dad and i have to talk my mom into letting us have this tank. she likes fish but i think when she saw our estimate from a local fish store to set one up with filter n all but no fish, she almost had a heart attack. We thought she was gonna go crazy n kill us both, me first bcuz i am the one putting the good ideas into my dads mind :kana:. so hopefully it will be temporary n i have 2 angels in there right now n they are very happy, thanks to my hardwork. :fun:

i called the lfs today to see if the had any veil fin angels. n they didnt but they can get me some buy next week. They said i could get them for $5.95, and they are a lil bit bigger than a dime size angel. Is this reasonable? and do u have any suggestions on colors? thanks

I don't think 6 dollars is reasonable for a dime sized fish. Anyway, depending on how tall the tank is affects whether you should have angels or not. It should be at least 18" tall I believe.

i will go measure the height of the tank but i have to find a ruler first or tape measure :S

the tank is 19" minus the 1" of rocks so i have 18  n it is 12 n 1/2" wide. man i hate fractions always did n always will. :D

That's plenty for angels. I don't know about balas though.
do u have any idea on the growth rate of bala's.mayb i will just give em away when they get to big to turn around. Do u think i could sell them? But like i said earlier im hoping i can get a 100g by next christmas ill have enough time to think of what to do with them.

If you will be getting it by christmas you should be fine. Balas grow quite fast but they still won't be too big for the 55 at that point, especially if they are still juvies. I wouldn't worry about it. If you see signs of stress, however, do something to correct the situation.

I have red an article on the net sumwhere n i was wandering if angels would eat any type of small fry or only guppy fry. thanks
